How is the TEAS 7 scored?
Adjusted Individual Total Score
Your main score is the Adjusted Individual Total Score, a 0–100% score based on the 150 scored questions (the 20 unscored pretest questions don't count). ATI "equates" it, meaning it's adjusted for small differences in difficulty between test forms.
Section (content area) scores
You also get Reading, Math, Science, and English scores. These are equated too, so they don't average or add up to your total score. That surprises a lot of students!
Sub-content scores
Smaller topic scores (like Key Ideas & Details) are simple percent correct and are not equated, so use them to find what to review rather than to compare.
ATI Academic Preparedness Levels
Score ranges as shown on a 2026 ATI sample score report (confirm on your own report):
| Level | Total score range |
|---|---|
| Developmental | 0.0% – 40.7% |
| Basic | 41.3% – 58.0% |
| Proficient | 58.7% – 77.3% |
| Advanced | 78.0% – 90.0% |
| Exemplary | 90.7% – 100% |
So what score do you need?
Check with your school for the minimum score needed
Some schools require a minimum total score; others also require minimum section scores; some award admission points by score band.
Sometimes schools are competitive
You may need a higher score than the posted minimum. Aim for a cushion when the program is hard to get into.
Ask a nursing advisor
You can always reach out to a nursing advisor and ask what your goal score should be.
Retakes
Retake rules (how many attempts, how long to wait, which score counts) are set by each school. Check with your program before scheduling.
How to raise your TEAS score
- Use your score report's "Topics to Review" list to target study.
- Focus on Science and Math first if they're your lowest.
- Practice timed and review every missed question.
